The most romantic dinner ever, at the Sugar Mill Ruins

Now this is what honeymooners dream of when they dream of romantic dinners during their getaway together. No...wait...this surpasses what honeymooners can even dream of experiencing. A romantic dinner is made of beautiful ambiance (check!) with a mood-setting vibe (check!) Fine wine (check!) and a fabulous menu (check!)

But when you add in the private waiter with the warm and wonderful smile, the polished pouring method with the wine, the top-tier service with every minute detail covered (and I'm a picky little bugger at fine restaurants!) this dining experience at the Sugar Mill Ruins quickly hits the top of a 'most romantic dinner ever' list.

The open-air sky above was filled with an impossible number of stars, planets, and -- as our iPhone pointed out -- galaxies, and the air was the perfect blend of stillness and ocean air that carried the scent of the plumeria and hibiscus on it. Just enough to remind you where you are.

My favorite part of dinner in the Sugar Mill Ruins...there was no rush. None. At all. One would think that a resort would want to hurry you along after a good two-hour dinner, to make room for the next honeymooners with the trendy 10pm dinner reservation. Nope. We didn't get any sense of 'move it along' while we were carefully attended to at our private table. The staff at Caneel Bay are not like that, displaying the joyfully relaxed mode of action that we mainlanders can only aspire to.

We were free to savor our lobsters, sip our wine, taste our desserts in tiny bites, and reminisce about our wedding day. All in this most stunning of atmospheres. The building itself has a history of long-ago hard working hours...and the walls themselves seem to breathe with relief that they are now honeymooners' magical romantic setting. The building evolved into a dreamy destination, producing 'most romantic ever' memories.

Speaking of 'most romantic ever' memories, share with us what your dinner or drinks were in the Sugar Mill Ruins. Did you have a private dinner a deux, or did you host your destination wedding reception here? Did you propose here? Or did I just give you a great idea?
